Really interesting take on the niche volleyball community and one of its most dominating club teams Ka Ulukoa. Tons of lessons in how humility and steadfastness can lead to success. Really recommend it if you’re a volleyball player or even just a fan of the sport.

The Way A Hawaiian Story of Growth Relationships Volleyball eBook Christopher Austin Reviews

Competed against Ka Ulukoa in club for many years, including one year with Chris Austin as my coach. Amazing to hear their story from an inside point of view. Chris has a great perspective on volleyball that is rare to find!
Chris does a great job of telling a story that might not be told otherwise. Its engaging and written in a way that makes the story available to all comers. Definitely a good account of the team, their endeavors, and their unlikely success. Good job Chris and thanks for telling the teams' story.

- from a co-founder of Ka Ulukoa
I had always wished there was some sort of narrative surrounding volleyball to combine my voracious reading habits with my love of volleyball and this book has finally satisfied that desire. For years, I had searched for a story like this, but could only seem to find coaching strategy guides and the like. I am happy to say that this is both the first book I have found with an actual plot surrounding volleyball and it is also a phenomenally inspiring non-fiction tale. Definitely worth reading if you love volleyball!
Great story of the historic Ka Ulukoa boy's Junior team that won the Junior National Championship every year. This details the improbable odds that they faced. From players leaving and barely getting enough guys to field a team. To getting kicked out of a hotel.

It is a phenomenal and heart warming story that is very well written by a longtime friend. This story is especially dear to me since I was present for some of the events described. If you can make the time to read this book, I highly recommend that you do.
Being a volleyball enthusiast I picked up this book from Chris Austin at the Boy’s Junior Nationals in Dallas, Texas. A few days later I finished the book and hired Chris to share the training secrets contained in this book with my son. It is incredibly inspiring to read a story about an undersized group of boys compete at the highest level of volleyball in the country and be successful year after year. I am going to recommend this book to both my sons high school coach and club volleyball coaches. Even if you aren’t into volleyball you will appreciate this inspiring underdog story and easy summer read.
“The Way” is a riveting book is based on the true story of four aspiring volleyballers in Hawaii Larry, Evan, Skylan, and Micah. The group’s revolutionary training style is a must-read for all volleyball players, coaches, and fans. First-time author, Christopher P. Austin, skillfully blends the growth process of four young men with an intimate look at both family and cultural social dynamics. Austin’s crisp writing style and richly-detailed descriptions show a deep passion for volleyball that subtly recruits the reader to root for the young heroes of this epic sports journey.

From the sandy Hawaiian beaches to the wooden hardcourts of the United States mainland “The Way” is an inside peek at the next generation of volleyball stars who developed through the junior ranks. The athletes’ compelling narrative arc reads like a cultural coming-of-age story told through volleyball and the personal relationships among the players. As a true story it is a richly metaphorical book about volleyball and the relationships between the players that are accurately drawn.

“The Way” captivates the reader’s imagination with a sharp human-interest angle — competitive boys becoming men — and game-time excitement. It provides a deep appreciation of sports to the general public. It is an emotionally satisfying book that you will want to read more than once. I highly recommend “The Way” by Christopher P. Austin.
Great book, must read for everyone especially volleyball players!!!!
