First-I am writing this as quickly as I can so I can read the next book the author has written in this series...not because I got left hanging because this is a stand alone book-but because I do fell in love with it I find myself wanting to read everything about the 'Coming of the Light' works.When I began reading this book I want hooked on the wrong style and even felt it was going tho be impossible to get into this book because of what I considered simplistic writing and dialog. Not was I wrong! Yes, this book IS written in a little different way than most books I enjoy but that ended up being a plus not a minus. I know and love every character-to the point that I cried during painful parts. I became so invested in this story and its characters, I can't wait to read the next book and I am so grateful this author has written more. This was NOT a short quick read-thank heavens because it was very entertaining. This was not a book that felt like the first half of a novel the author cut in half to insure readers would buy the next book-I will get everything this author writes because I want to. This book quite simply was a joy to read. This is a book I will enjoy reading over and over. It's inspiring, creative, addicting and thoroughly entertaining! I enjoyed every moment of reading and found it very hard to put down, putting off meals and skipping tv shows to keep reading. I actually was reading twice so late at night that I fell asleep with the book open in front of me. As a Christian book this novel exceeds my expectations and I can even see myself reading this to my children to share time together and to teach them some important lessons. Do read this book. You will be glad you did. I'm recommending it to everyone I know. :) :) :)!

I don't read as often as I want to or should. This was well worth making the time. Looking forward to the next one!
I found an easy read. He tells areat story. He makes you want to get the neat book to follow the story.
Fantastic read! It is hard to put this story away, it grips and places you in the very moment portrayed.
Very clever writing. I really enjoyed the mix of Sci-fi and a Biblical worldview.
This is an excellent addition to anyone's fantasy collection, and is made all the better for having a Christian foundation and moral center. Entertainment with a message!
This is one of those books that you can't put down. I would find myself wishing for it whenever I'd gone to town for appointments and had some time to fill. I love the book. It offers what readers love most about books-- the experience of it. You feel like you are there with the characters, when they're afraid- you're on edge, when they're saddened- you grieve with them, when they're prayerful- you send up prayers of your own!
It could be said that on some levels this is the Christian answer to "The Hunger Games". You see a similar world offered here, except where "The Hunger Games" never broaches the subject of religion or God at all, "The Beginning of the Light" deals with the dual subjects of religion and God head on. It offers glimpses of what the world might be in the future (after a world wide disaster) through a Christian perspective while combining ancient (biblical-style) battles, swords and wagons, technology, and fantasy. Jon Hewett has given Christians an excellent, fictional read while simultaneously giving glory to God!
I enjoyed reading this book very much. I am a Christian and I really enjoy reading books of the fantasy genre. I have often wondered if it were possible for these two joys to occupy the same space. Now, I have an answer. Yes!!! Well done, Mr. Hewett!! I thoroughly enjoyed the characters that were introduced. I fretted along with them. I celebrated their victories. And I marveled at the beautiful display of Christianity. This novel takes one of the core beliefs of Christianity and allows you to question the nature of your faith through the life of the main character. If you believed your Eternity forfeit would you continue to live for God? One of the many questions I was able to ask myself as I read this book. If you love the fantasy genre, then I recommend this book. If you are a Christian, then I recommend this book. Highly recommended! I look foward to the next!
